Upton Keeps Producing

Justin Upton has continued his hot season by hitting another long ball yesterday. Upton's average HR is traveling 427.4 feet. Thats the longest average for any player in MLB with 5 HR's or more. His longest HR this season was his Grand Slam which traveled 461 feet. Last year he had a total of 5 HR's that went 420 feet or more. Is it time we start talking about PED's?

Triple Threat???

Miguel Cabrera, last years triple crown winner, is once again on pace for a historic season. Check out these splits.

At this point 2012: .311 BA, 8 HR & 33 RBI's

1 Year Later: .376 BA, 8 HR & 42 RBI's

How is that for consistency?

The Bryce is Right......Again

On Friday April 12th Bryce Harper hit his 5th HR of the season. He's the 2nd player age 20 or younger with 5+ HR's in his teams first 10 games. Last years triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera was the other player to accomplish this in 2004. Thats good company to have for Mr Harper

The NY Yan......I mean The NY Mets

On Wednesday April 10th The NY Mets broke a franchise record by hitting a HR in 9 consecutive games to start a season. The power coming from this lineup is what we expect from the Bronx Bombers but not The Metropolitans. Fans are hoping that this will continue as the emergence of Matt Harvey has the Pitching staff looking strong.

Justin UP-ton

Justin Upton belted 2 HR's for the Braves yesterday raising his HR total to 5 for the year which leads MLB. He has homered in 4 out of 5 games this year and looks to be fitting in nicely with the National League. He was selected by 15 teams in the Derby and shows up quite a few times in our top 10.

Bryce and Smooth

Young stud Bryce Harper got the Derby kicked off by knocking out 2 HR's on opening day to help Washington get off to good start. You have to love this kid as a baseball fan.

"4 Damn Inches"

Thats what she said.........Its also what Giancarlo Stanton said about his latest power surger. Stanton has 6 HR's in his last 9 games and is one of the hottest hitters in the league. He commented that he moved his hands back 4 inches in his stance which dropped his left shoulder and has allowed him to drive the ball. Then he finished with "4 damn inches".

Albert Does It

After 33 games and 139 AB's (dating back to 2011) Albert Pujols finally hit a HR. It was the longest homerless streak of his career. When he came back to the dugout not 1 Angels player was waiting for him. He ran in the tunnel for a quick celebration with teammates and we may have even seen Mike Scioscia crack a smile. For Albert and his owners hopefully this will get him going.

Matty Kemp

Wow is this guy on fire! Kemp jacked his 11th of the month yesterday and continues his insane pace. The top of our standings prove how valuable he has been to our league. The record for the most HR's in April is 14, done by A-rod in 2007 and Pujols in 2006.  The record for most HR's in any month is 20, done by Sammy "I don't understand your question" Sosa in June of 1998.

Adam LaRoche

After an injury plagued 2011 where he played just 43 games, Adam Laroche becomes the first Derby player to pass his HR total from a year ago. It took LaRoche just 21 games to do it. That means for the 1 owner who picked him its all gravy from here. He's on pass to crush his total from last year and if he keeps it up he could have the biggest differential at seasons end.

Something Kind Of Grandish

Curtis Granderson decided to put in some extra work at the cage yesterday morning. Well it paid off in a big way by going deep in his first 3 AB's of the game. Those AB's game in 4 innings of play. Granderson becomes the first player to go deep 3 times in MLB this year, and becomes the first player to hit 3 out in 1 game at the new Yankee Stadium. He's also the 12th major leaguer to hit three home runs in the first four innings of a game. Alfonso Soriano was the last to do it for the Chicago Cubs on June 8, 2007, against Atlanta.

Mike Napoli

Mike Napoli went deep for the 4th straight game yesterday. That gives him a total of 5 for the year. His hot stretch has helped his owners work their way back into the mix.

Matt Kemp vs. Shawn Kemp

Matt Kemp went deep again yesterday to continue his torrid pace to start the season. He now has 7 HR's to lead the majors. His preseason prediction of 50/50 may be tough, but it may not be because of the HR's. But it got me thinking. Can Matt Kemp finish the month with more HR's than the # of Shawn Kemps children? The Kemp watch is officially on........

Slugfest

In Yesterdays Boston/Texas game at Fenway there were a total of 8 HR's hit. Thats the most in any game this year. The MLB record is 10 which was done on 9/14/87 by Toronto/Baltimore. 6 of the 8 HR's in yesterdays game had an impact on our Derby. Mike Napoli led the charge by going deep twice.

We Have An A-rod Siting

45 owners were able to breathe a little easier yesterday when A-rod decided to join the derby when he went deep to dead center at the Yankees home opener. With that HR he also tied Ken Griffey Jr for 5th All-Time with 630 HR's. I consider JR one of the classiest players of our generation and can only assume he did it clean. A-rod, on the other hand, has admitted to steroids and always seems to have controversy follow him wherever he goes. If anyone gets the chance, read the story R.A. Dickey puts in his book about A-rod. It sums up the kind of guy A-rod is.
